May 1, 2008 Funeral update

Dad's funeral will be held at the Dietrich High School Gymnasium Monday May 5th at 11:00 am. There will be two separate viewings at Demaray's Mortuary in Shoshone: Sunday evening (Time to be announced, please check the blog) and Monday, prior to the funeral from 9:00 am to 10:00 am sharp. A law enforcement escort will lead the procession to the Dietrich School. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the "Perpetual Education fund" or "Humanitarial Aid Fund." I had the privelege of growing up with his children. I do remember asking Jamie when he would not be on duty so we could get away with reckless driving.

He gave his all to his family, his faith his job in lincoln county as well. Great asset. Will be missed here as he has a reunion with his Parents, brothers and other prognetirs. KNew how to talk to people in trouble and was there for them as well.

I wish I could make it to the service but I am not able too.

I feel horrible that I can not come and show you my support. I've said goodbye to Steve in my own way and will be with you in my thoughts.

The continuation of the blog has been wonderful, as was the idea for starting it to begin with.

Since we all come from a small community it is most often times of great need that we reunite.

This has been one way for those of us who have left the area to still feel as though we are standing there with everyone else.

Love,

Bridgett, Mark, Gabby and Morgan

Just to echo what Bridgett said above... thank you so much for the blog. I'm sure it hasn't been easy for you to keep up, but it has served to bring us all home to Dietrich again to be with you in a very important way.

I had a great memory come back to me today-- such a random fun one that I wanted to share.

I remember riding with Steve and Cheri to a church meeting in Carey one time (must have been about '89). Steve set his homemade cruise control in that old blue truck to 55 mph and up the two-lane highway we went. As the line of cars driving behind him grew longer and longer, Steve’s smile grew bigger and bigger. Nobody dared to go over the speed limit to pass the deputy sheriff!

I so wish I could be with you all Monday, and I will, in spirit.

Much love,
Wendy Staten

I have many fond memories of Steve, but I think some of my favorites are when the giant roll of plastic was layed out down the hill to look like a slip-n-slide, kids young and old coming together.

I knew Steve through my job as a dispatcher at the Gooding County Sheriffs Office when I lived in Gooding. I live in Gerogia now, however my Idaho friends and I stay in touch.

Nala Posey emailed me of Steve's accident and sent me the blog address so I could keep up with his condition.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
